Communities in Action: Barrhead

Categories: Community engagement, Social connectedness, Community,

Creating a dedicated space of peace can reduce stress and enhance community wellbeing. Barrhead Wellness Connections has recently completed a beautiful labyrinth, an outdoor retreat meant for relaxation and reflection. The practice of walking within a labyrinth is an effective way to encourage meditation and physical activity. By exploring the inner circles of the labyrinth, community members are offered an accessible path that supports positive mental health.

Mayor Dave McKenzie of Barrhead believes the creation of the labyrinth demonstrates the towns’ commitment to create a healthier place to live, work and play and states that, “when you build things together in the community, as a community, the projects become the community”. The labyrinth was made possible through the collaboration of multiple partners in Barrhead all of whom have a shared vision of promoting overall community health and wellness.
