Communities in Action: Grande Cache

The Grande Cache Healthier Together Action Team has partnered with the local Public Library to create a Little Free Pantry. The pantry is stocked with non-perishable food that is available for free; no questions asked. Members also put together over 50 personal care packages full of items such as shampoo, soap, nail clippers and toothpaste, available to those individuals who may be struggling to make ends meet. As news spread, the team has noticed a significant increase in people asking for the care packages, while the Little Free Pantry has been accessed daily.

One team member shared; “I knew we had some food security issues in town when I first suggested the Little Free Pantry, but was nowhere prepared for the extent it was needed. We believe the Pantry has helped our community to alleviate some of the food insecurities: especially for the homeless, low income and single parents”.

The initiative has received donations from the local Co-Op, Grande Cache Memorial Ice Breakers, McNeil Construction, and from many generous residents in the community, such as Councilman Winston Delorme. Each time the Tourism Center hosts an event they request that participants donate goods to be distributed to the food bank and Little Free Pantry.
