Every year, more than 3000 Albertans die from tobacco-related causes.Tobacco use is the leading cause of disease, disability, and premature death in the province. But, the harmful effects of smoking do not just impact those who smoke. Second-hand smoke causes serious disease and death in non-smoking adults. Even brief exposure can be dangerous.
It is important to work with local municipalities on Tobacco and Smoke-Free Environment policies so that our children and youth can play in smoke-free spaces.
Clearly visible, easy-to-read signs are one way of ensuring these messages are available to the public.
